1 dead, 3 injured in shooting at El Paso mall; 2 suspects in custody

9pm update: Two people are now in custody and there is no danger to the public, according to interim police chief Peter Pacillas. This is an active investigation and in its preliminary stages.
Cielo Vista Mall remains closed for security reasons and to allow investigators to conduct appropriate procedures. The El Paso Police Department will lead the investigation.
SPD spokesman Sgt Javier Zambrano said the first call came in at 5:03 p.m. local time and at 5:08 p.m. one of the suspects was in custody thanks to an off-duty officer who was at a store in the mall.
Sergeant Zambrano added that three people were injured and one person lost their life in the incident.
Vehicles parked in the Cielo Vista Mall parking lot will remain there while the investigation continues because they are part of the crime scene.

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A shooting was reported just after 5 p.m. Wednesday at the food court and Dillard’s department store at Cielo Vista Mall in East El Paso.
A large police presence and ambulances pulled into the parking lot on Thursday afternoon.
The El Paso Police Department confirmed one death and three injuries in the incident.
In a text alert at 5:49 p.m. MST, the El Paso Police Department said the scene was “still active.”
Two people were admitted to her hospital in critical condition, according to Ryan Mielke, director of public affairs at University Hospital El Paso.
The city of El Paso released a statement via Twitter, saying law enforcement is currently clearing the mall and the crime scene is being secured. The motive for this shooting is still unclear.
