12 families have been displaced from their homes following a large house fire in Fern Creek

Twelve families are without a home after a fire in Fern Creek that severely damaged some homes, according to the Fern Creek Fire Department. It happened just after 4:30 a.m. Saturday when Fern Creek Fire, along with Jeffersontown Fire and Okolona Fire, were dispatched to the 5000 block of Hames Trace. There is a three-story apartment complex located directly behind the Big Lots at Bardstown Road and South Hurstbourne Parkway. It took around 30 firefighters around 20 minutes to evacuate all residents and bring the fire under control. Some residents were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene, but there were no injuries to anyone on scene or firefighters. However, the building was badly affected with damage to two apartments and the attic. Ten additional units sustained moderate water and/or smoke damage. This has resulted in twelve families being displaced from their homes. The Red Cross supports these families by providing emergency accommodation if necessary. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

When they got there, they found a heavy fire coming from the top floor patio door and attic of a three-story apartment building.

It took around 30 firefighters around 20 minutes to evacuate all residents and bring the fire under control.

Some residents were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, but there were no injuries to anyone on scene or firefighters.

However, the building sustained serious damage to two apartments and the attic area. Ten additional units sustained moderate water and/or smoke damage.

This has resulted in twelve families being displaced from their homes.

The Red Cross supports these families with temporary accommodation if necessary.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
