13-year-old girl encourages others to follow their dreams after being admitted to medical school

A young girl from Texas had an experience at school unlike most kids her age.

Alena Analeigh Wicker graduated from high school at the age of 12 and was accepted into medical school.

Wicker, 13, is currently attending Arizona State University and Oakwood University studying biological sciences. After graduating from those undergraduate programs, in 2024 she will attend the Heersink School of Medicine at the University of Alabama, according to “Good Morning America.”

Speaking of her achievements, Wicker said, “After I got accepted, it was the most amazing moment, and just knowing I hit my goal of getting into medical school at this age is amazing for me. “

Wicker says her goal is to become a viral immunologist, which is the study of viruses.

She also enjoys “getting involved” and volunteering, including giving to young girls homeless or mentoring.

Proverbs 18:16 says, “A man’s gift makes room for him and brings him before the great.”

Wicker offered some words of encouragement to those who want to achieve their dreams regardless of their age.

“Well, first of all I would say don’t let anyone tell you no because so many people have told me no or that I can’t do what I dream of,” she said.

She also mentioned the importance of having a support system around her.

“They were there when I needed them and they supported me by saying, don’t give up on your dreams.”

Wicker said her mother is her biggest support and “always gives her a chance in everything” and believes in her.

In addition to her education, Wicker has also founded an organization called Brown Stem Girl to advocate for women and girls like her who want to enter the STEM field.

“That’s what marks my passion for supporting them, really giving them those opportunities and showing them that they can do whatever they put their mind to. They can take the same path as me and become whatever they want without anyone telling them it’s impossible,” she said.
