2 bears were caught raiding a Krispy Kreme truck at a military base

A pair of hungry bears looking for a treat in Alaska are gaining widespread national attention after raiding the back of a Krispy Kreme delivery truck parked outside an express store on a U.S. military base. Last week, Candice Sargeant, the manager of the Krispy Kreme store in Muldoon, Alaska, received an unexpected call from one of her delivery drivers who reported that a bear and her cub were in the back of his delivery truck. “I didn’t believe it,” Sargeant told KTUU, adding, “I was really amazed.” The delivery driver was making a delivery to a store at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER) in Anchorage when he came out Find the bears in the van. When the driver left the van unattended, he did not realize that the two bears were regulars outside the store. And earlier that day they had been looking for something to eat. “She was happy because she was looking for trash,” Shelly Deano, the on-base store manager, said of the mama bear. When Deano heard noises coming from inside the vehicle, it didn’t take him long to understand. “I said he was in the van and then the little cub followed him and went into the van and they just started eating the donuts eat,” Deano said. When Deano spotted the animals, he took a few photos of the bears raiding boxes full of donuts. “You could hear them breaking open the packages. We tried to enter the van, but they just ate all the donuts,” she said. “They ate 20 packs of the donut holes and I think six packs of the three-pack of chocolate donuts.” Finally, after military base personnel sounded the sirens, the bears exited the truck and headed into the woods. The Krispy Kreme Store team learned a lesson from the incident. “We will definitely learn to slide up our ramp (and) close the doors to make sure the bears don’t get back in,” Sargeant said.
