24-year-old prepares to undergo medical examination before moving to Newcastle, in Ecuador

The Athletic claims Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is set to undergo a medical in Ecuador before moving to Newcastle. It comes after reports from Brazil said Lyon had accepted a Toon bid.

Bruno, 24, has had a couple of great seasons at Lyon since moving from Atletico Paranense. In those two years, Bruno made 71 appearances in all competitions for the Ligue 1 side in their midfield position.

Regarded as one of the best teams in their place in French football, Newcastle have made their move. Globo Esporte reports that a fee of £33.5m has been accepted by Lyon, from Newcastle. Arsenal are also being contacted.

Now, the latest report from The Athletic says a medical calendar has been scheduled in South America, Ecuador specifically – with Bruno currently playing for the Brazil national team. The two countries play on Thursday, at 9pm.

Bruno to Newcastle: A huge midfield coup for Howe .’s side

Bruno is a Brazilian international. Newcastle fans, six months ago, dreamed of a current Brazilian international joining the club – but the midfielder appears to be on the verge of a move to Tyneside this month.

He is a player of great quality, whom Houssem Aouar once declared that he loved. Bruno improved the range of options in Newcastle’s midfield, adding both strength but technical quality in the defensive midfield.
