2GB Ben Fordham slams government plan to remove cashless social card as people claim it’s racist

From 2 GB radio presenter Ben Fordham
Actions have consequences.
And the Labor Party just made a terrible decision in the Bundestag.
Do not get me wrong.
Anthony Albanese has had many “victories” since taking over.
He has done well on the international stage.
He has just agreed with the Greens on his emission reduction policy.
And he’s enjoying his honeymoon.
But this one is a shocker.
Yesterday in Parliament – the cashless social card has been officially abolished.
The bill to get rid of it – passed the House of Commons and is now going to the Senate.
And when it’s all gone, more children will go hungry.
Actions have consequences.
And the consequences of this action are devastating.
More money is spent on alcohol.
More money is being spent on medicines.
More money is spent on cigarettes.
More money is spent on gambling.
children will starve.
You will miss fruits and vegetables.
Breakfast cereal, school lunches and hot dinners.
Some people just can’t help themselves.
They are so unwell, so sick with addiction issues, and they have no control.
That’s why we introduced the cashless social card.
It was brought to help people.
Helping people spend 80% of their welfare money on essentials.
Helping people – taking care of their children and giving them the things they need.
To help people – to limit the amount of money they spend on things that will harm their family.
I received a startling email from a lady who spends a lot of time in the Northern Territory.
Caroline says…
“Alice Springs is in crisis.
“I am shocked by the state of the city.
“I am shocked by the state of the city.
“Attacks in the city are up 13%
“Domestic violence has increased by 15%
“Automobile thefts have increased by 37%
“And these spikes occurred BEFORE the Northern Territory recently lifted alcohol bans.
“You need help.”
Well Caroline – you need more help if this card is taken away from you.
And yesterday’s development in the House of Representatives – the wheels set in motion.
It’s about to disappear.
Because the Prime Minister doesn’t believe in “tough love”.
It will be carnage.
Not for the average family using the card.
But for the children in the most desperate situations, it becomes carnage.
Listen to the politicians and community leaders on the front lines.
South Australian Liberal MP Rowan Ramsey says:
“The card helps to protect families from violence.
“Every day it helps to feed and clothe children.”
Rick Wilson from WA says:
“The decision to scrap the card will unleash a tsunami of alcohol and drug-related trauma in my community.”
Queensland Nationals MP Keith Pitt says:
“One school principal told me after the card was introduced – the number of kids they had to feed before school halved…
The children came to school with lunch and the families paid their rent.”
Prime Minister wants Indigenous Australians to have a ‘vote’ in Parliament.
But he doesn’t listen to them.
Listen to Noel Pearson, Jacinta Price and Warren Mundine.
And think of the poor children who have no voice.
If you take away this card, the children will suffer the most.
And sales of cigarettes, drugs and alcohol will increase.
Sometimes PM you have to help those – who don’t have the strength to help themselves!
