Newcastle United will look to continue their winning streak at Norwich City on Saturday but Eddie Howe can also use the clash to find three Canarian stars for summer signings.

The Toon head into Carrow Road on a three-win streak to climb 11th in the Premier League table. In fact, only title contenders Liverpool 2022 have scored more points than the Magpies so far. The Reds have claimed 35 from a potential 39, versus Newcastle’s 29 from 42.

Norwich, meanwhile, are third-lowest in 2022 with 11 out of 39 – only Everton (10 out of 42) and Watford (9 out of 45) have taken fewer. They’ve also won just one of their last 10 top-flight games, leaving Dean Smith’s side rooted at the bottom of the table.

Relegation challenges Norwich as they stare eight points adrift of Everton in 18th and are safe with six games to go before hosting Newcastle. And if you drop straight back into the Championship, the ranks of Carrow Road will no doubt be ravaged by hunting vultures.

The Toon were one of the clubs to raid the ranks in Norfolk after their last relegation in 2020. Steve Bruce added Jamal Lewis £15 millionrising to £20m with add-ons while Ben Godfrey joined Everton 20 million pounds. Now Howe can do a similar thing with the summer sales.

Dimitris Giannoulis

Norwich retained Dimitris Giannoulis after a season on loan from PAOK last year. The Canaries paid for the Greek outfit £6 million for the left-back’s permanent transfer and could now offer Newcastle an option to consider with Lewis’ future at St James’ Park now in doubt.

Giannoulis could offer Newcastle a low-cost option to back Matt Targett and add depth to the left-back next season with a transfer from Norwich. The 26-year-old has made just 14 Premier League appearances this season but has impressed in the Canary Islands’ recent games.

Smith has used the 18-cap Greece defender against Brighton, Burnley and Manchester United so far this month. He also got the Red Devils into trouble at Old Trafford last week, combining well with Teemu Pukki and regularly advancing to join their attacking moves.

Matthew Norman

Daniel Farke emerged for Norwich in the Russian Premier League to sign Normann in August. The midfielder joined Carrow Road from FC Rostov for the season with an option to buy. the athlete report the clause is worth £11million, on top of a £1.5million loan fee.

It was also noted at the time of Normann’s arrival in Norfolk that Norwich will likely need to retain their Premier League status to buy the Norwegian this year. With that now very unlikely, the 25-year-old is another option Howe can scout for the Toon on Saturday.

Normann was regularly one of the top performers in the Canary Islands during the previous tough tenure. He has provided both Farke and current coach Smith with a box-to-box presence, capable of creating chances on the one hand but also covering the back four on the other.

The 12-cap international also stunned Magpies icon Alan Shearer with his performance at Brentford in November. The Newcastle hero praised Normann after scoring Norwich’s first goal in their 2-1 win in west London. It remains his only goal plus two assists this season.

“He was fantastic,” Shearer said of quotes from Norfolk Live. “It definitely was [Norwich’s] best performance of the season and this guy has been instrumental in everything Norwich has done well. It’s a fantastic shot on goal.

“He goes past two or three players, easily drifts past them, comes in with his left foot and hits the goalkeeper with the wrong foot. It’s a smart ending. All good about Norwich, he was an integral part of it. His pass was great.

“Has played his part defensively with his positioning, he could smell where the trouble is. What a pass to Pukki to run after and there they get the penalty and [Pukki] tape it away. [Normann] drove the ball forward and dragged his team meters across the field.

Kieran Dowell

Kieran Dowell joined Norwich from Everton ahead of their tenure as title winners in July 2020. His deal came about with the signing of Jordan Hugill and the loaning of Oliver Skipp, Ben Gibson and Xavier Quintilla for a combination £6 millionwhereby the individual fee paid is not reported.

The attacking midfielder never had a chance to prove himself in the top flight with the Toffees. Of his five senior games in the 2015/16 season, only two came in the Premier League. Still, Dowell has played in 14 this season and started six for Norwich.

Smith has given the 24-year-old two starts in the Canary Islands’ last two games against Burnley and Manchester United. Dowell rewarded the confidence by scoring and assisting in the 3-2 loss at Old Trafford. He headed his first before assisting Pukki with a long diagonal.

Dowell was calm about beating David de Gea and chastised Manchester United for consistently giving him plenty of space. He started the duel on the right flank and will be an option Howe will have to consider in his team selection when Newcastle travel to Norwich.
