Gianluca Scamacca should prefer West Ham United and the Premier League to French champions Paris Saint-Germain, says former Serie A goalkeeper Graziano Battistini Heaven Italy.

You know things have changed at Parc des Princes as PSG are unwilling to accept West Ham’s offer for one of the most exciting young strikers in European football.

Yes, money is still no object in PSG’s coffers. But after another overwhelming campaign and more humiliation in the Champions League, Les Parisiens do things differently these days.

Gone is the “glitz,” to quote President Nasser Al-Khelaifi. Welcome to a new age of self-preservation. And Scamacca is perhaps the poster child for PSG’s new approach to the transfer market. Established superstars are no longer on the menu. PSG is sniffing at exciting youngsters these days.

Scamacca has already agreed personal terms with PSG. However, Christophe Galtier’s side have no intention of matching Sassuolo’s asking price of £42m, which puts West Ham firmly in the box seat.

“Scamacca is a young player of great value and Serie A would lose (if he left),” said Battistini, who used to play for Udinese and Hellas Verona, referring to Mauro Icardi’s struggles in the French capital.

“If I were him, I would choose the Premier League.

“I would be careful with the top clubs. (Scamacca can) risk ending up like Icardi. In PSG attack they have players who (if you bench them) become a problem.”

Corresponding Sky Sports, West Ham made a new offer for the 6ft 5ins Scamacca this week. This comes after Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali admitted the Hammers had tested the water with a £34million offer earlier in July.

Scamacca scored 16 goals in Serie A last season. Only five players – including Lautaro Martinez, Tammy Abraham and Dusan Vlahovic – netted more often.

And as Battistini points out, PSG are far from the ideal destination for a 23-year-old forward hoping to play regularly in the first team.

Icardi, top scorer in Serie A in 2018, was only in the starting XI for ten games last season. Since then, PSG have added Hugo Ekitike to their ranks and tied Kylian Mbappe to a new deal.
