5 Classic Modern War Weapons That Should Join Season 3’s Intervention In MW2 & Warzone 2
Recent Call of Duty installments have pretty deftly drawn a line between new and classic content. Modern Warfare 2 also continues this trend. As players look forward to Season 3 of the post-launch content, the developers have confirmed that the Intervention sniper rifle will return, albeit under the new FJX Imperium name. To this end we pluck five more classic CoD: Modern Warfare weapons that could join the intervention in future seasons of MW2 and Warzone 2.
The G36C, like a number of guns on this list, has been featured in several CoD titles over the years. It’s a powerful all-around assault rifle with decent damage, range, and handling.
That versatility, however, makes it a great candidate for an MW2 or Warzone 2 reincarnation, given its ability to tailor it to specific playstyles using the Gunsmith’s plethora of attachments and customizations – customizations that existed in the 2007 games or 2009 just didn’t exist.
The idea of collapsing the stock or rigging a much lighter barrel to improve its ADS and make it an AR-SMG hybrid like the Kastov-74u stands out.
Another classic CoD sniper rifle, the R700 is often overlooked as it was surpassed by the M40A3 back in 2007’s Modern Warfare. However, it’s more than capable of holding its own, firing quickly and dealing enough damage to pull off consistent one-hits. The M40A3 doesn’t live up to its speed, especially the fast and forgiving version we got in Black Ops Cold War (where it was dubbed the Pelington 703).
It’s a perfect candidate for MW2 for its simplicity and fast, hard-hitting scope potential, but without the flashy design of some of the 2022 Episode sniper pools. Again, we like the idea of adding attachments and customizing them like it does is possible in new CoDs.
High damage and low recoil as you can imagine combine to make a formidable assault rifle. The ACR has already returned from its first appearance in 2009’s MW2, and we’d love to see it return in the rebooted Modern Warfare 2. There is currently no truly comparable assault rifle that can inflict such damage with so little recoil.
Admittedly, it would need to address some weaknesses before it can be introduced into the current meta. Its laser-like accuracy would make it a scary proposition on Al Mazrah or Ashika Island, much like WZ2’s ISO Hemlock or first BR’s Grau. In fact, if it falls into Warzone with such negligible recoil and ease of use, we could see it as one of the best weapons in the game.
Another SMG that has been brought back in various forms over the years is the UMP45, a fast and forgiving melee weapon perfect for aggressive players and playstyles. So if you are confident, you should also stand behind this choice.
While it could thrive in a support sniper role, we’d like to see it return in MW2 and Warzone 2 because its speed and low recoil make it a formidable opponent for the Fennec (before it was heavily nerfed) or the Lachman Sub would .
You may need to improve handling with rear grip and stock changes, but it seems like the kind of gun that would thrive in this year’s games.
5. Model 1887
The last weapon we’d like to see again is the Model 1887. This shotgun has put up incredible punch in old Modern Warfare games, no more so than when it’s been poked in the side. We won’t commit to that just yet (we’re still getting over the ‘duf-duf’ KV Broadside from Warzone 2 Season 2), but it would be welcome to see this lever juggernaut back in the mix.
Shotguns in Warzone 2 have returned to the norm of being underwhelming following the KV Broadside nerf, and the Model 1887 looks like the perfect weapon to reverse that trend and set yourself apart.
That is 5 classic Modern Warfare weapons we’d love to see intervening in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2. Only time will tell how much Intervention falls off in Season 3, but if it does, we’ll cover it all here on Twinfinite.
