5 shocking moments from American Horror Story: Delicate Episode 1
Since Season 1, “American Horror Story” has developed a reputation for making viewers ask, “What did I just see?” and “Delicate,” the 12th season of FX’s horror anthology series, delivers on that promise right away redeemed at the beginning.
“Delicate” isn’t just the first season not to be hosted by Ryan Murphy; It is also the first season based on a book. Adapted from Danielle Valentine’s recent novel “Delicate Condition” and directed by playwright Halley Feiffer (“I’m Gonna Pray for You So Hard”), season 12 follows Anna Victoria Alcott (Emma Roberts), an aspiring movie star who wants to be I want nothing more than to be a mother. But the further she goes down the path to motherhood, the more she suspects that everyone around her is conspiring against her and her future child.
In addition to Roberts, “AHS” newcomers Kim Kardashian and Cara Delevingne star in this season. The season also stars Matt Czuchry, Billie Lourd, Dennis O’Hare, Leslie Grossman, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Annabelle Dexter-Jones, Julie White and Dominic Burgess. Fan favorite Zachary Quinto also plays a guest role.
Here are some of the most shocking moments from the Season 12 premiere of American Horror Story.
Anna pulled a thread out of her head
Even before this season began, FX filled promos and key visuals for “Delicate” with artistic images of pregnant stars and monstrous spiders. We just didn’t think spider imagery would be so literal. In the first episode of the season, Anna examined her hair after undergoing an IBF procedure. When she pulled on one of her hairs, it continued to pull, much like a spider thread.
Later in the episode, Anna’s partner Dexter (Czuchry) pulled a spider out of her hair that looked very similar to a black widow. Even later, Anna admitted to Siobhan (Kim Kardashian) that her biggest fear is that “my eggs are so old and dusty that my baby will come out as a spider.” The arachnid pictures continue.
Kim Kardashian swore more than you had ever seen her
Going into this season, little was known about what type of character mega-influencer Kim Kardashian would be playing in her “AHS” debut. Now we know she plays a foul-mouthed publicist who says things like “Suck my c–t” (cl, not cu, by the way).
Shortly after, Kardashian’s Siobhan Corbyn joked that her client Anna had dementia, criticized The CW, said that Anna “harming” herself would “be an actress,” and dropped at least one F-bomb. But episode 1 also revealed that Siobhan met Anna at an IBF support group. As jaded as this publicist may be, prepare yourself for emotional layers. Whether these shifts are ultimately good or bad for Anna remains to be seen.
“Gaslighting Anna” is this season’s theme
When we watched “Delicate,” educated fans already knew that this season was about people enlightening hopeful Anna about her dreams of motherhood. But nothing could prepare the audience for how scary all of these lies and deceptions would be. Over the course of one episode, a doll signed by Anna is mysteriously moved from place to place and she witnesses a planned IBF appointment change before her eyes.
Andy Cohen made a surprise appearance (and beat Tom Sandoval)
Who would have thought that the main drama in the first episode of “Delicate” would revolve around Andy Cohen? In the first half of the episode, Anna is forced to choose between an earlier IBF appointment, which could increase her chances of conceiving, and an appearance on Watch What Happens Live.
Ultimately, Anna found a way to do both. But when she came forward to Cohen, he didn’t hold back. After Anna joked that she killed someone to get the role in her hot indie horror film, she said: “No one will miss him.”
“I know: Tom Sandoval,” Cohen replied.
“No, but I asked Tom Sandoval to be on this show,” Anna replied.
If you’re behind on your real-life drama, Sandoval is the “Vanderpump Rules” reality star at the center of the much-talked-about scandal between Ariana Madix and his months-long affair partner Raquel Levis. The controversy even earned him the catchy nickname “Scandoval.”
A nurse had a bloody make-out session with Anna
Of all the strange images in this first episode, this one is perhaps the most disturbing. After learning that the IBF procedure was necessary, Anna agreed to another procedure through her doctor. Feeling dazed, either from the drugs she was taking or her general deteriorating mental state, Anna imagined that one of the nurses was the elderly lady (Julie White) who had been following her. In the hallucination, the lady named Preecher tore out her tongue and tried to snog Anna, whose mouth had been sewn shut.
Even in an episode that ended with a threat in the mirror, the scene is one of the most disturbing moments in an unsettling premiere.
