The surprising day and time when golfers are playing more than ever
Weekend foursomes are still a popular activity.
And it seems like they’re gathering mid-afternoon on Wednesdays.
A new study from Stanford University on working from home says so. Among the key takeaways is that WFH has fueled a golf boom—and done so in spectacular fashion at perhaps untraditional times. It’s not just the fairways seeing action during work hours; some might even squeeze in a game of live blackjack between tasks.
We’ll look at some of the data in a moment—because three quotes from the study sum it up well.
“You can’t tell the difference between the week and the weekend,” a Phoenix consulting executive said in January. “It’s always packed. By the end of the afternoon, it’s packed.”
“We were planning to renovate the golf course in 2021, but golf has exploded to the point where we have to pause,” a golf course manager said in February. “Every golf course, every minute of the week, is packed, there are no quiet Wednesdays anymore.”
“I think my co-worker is on a Zoom call from the golf course,” a California tech executive said in January. “He’s on mute and off video, but one time while he’s talking, I hear someone talking about ball flight and shots.”
You might laugh at that last quote. It’s funny. But maybe you know someone who has done the same thing. Or maybe you’ve done it yourself—possibly even while trying to hit a winning streak in Play live blackjack.
