Guns N’ Roses Had to Postpone Shows
Guns N’ Roses were forced to cancel their only Scottish Show in Glasgow due to medical advice, according to frontman Axl Rose’s Twitter feed. He said that he had been prescribed rest and relaxation. However, he posted an apologetic tweet where he said.
“I’d like to thank everyone 4 their well wishes! It’s greatly appreciated! We apologize for the inconvenience for postponing Glasgow. I’ve been following Dr’s orders, getting rest, working w/a vocal coach, n’ sorting out r sound issues. Seems good so far. Thanks again 4 everyone’s concern! At the end of the day, it’s about giving u the fans the best or rselves n’ the best time we can give u n’ that’s all I, the band n’ crew r focused on! See u in Munich!!”
Guns N’ Roses had had to cancel their world tour for two years because of the Covid-19 pandemic, so fans were eager to see the classic line-up of Axl Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan. While the band had never officially broken up, Slash had stepped down in 1996 due to personal tensions with Rose. However, they got back together in 2016 for a couple of gigs at the Coachella Festival. That turned into the three-year Not In This Lifetime tour which grossed the band over $548.2 million.
So, the 2022 world tour kicked off on May 21st when they performed to an audience in Florida alongside Foo Fighter, Kiss, and Korn at the Daytona Speedway Festival. They had arrived in Europe and played a three-hour, 27-song set in Ireland at Dublin’s Marlay Park. But on Tuesday, July 5th, they announced they would be unable to perform the Scottish gig due to illness and medical advice. However, they told fans they would be in touch to reschedule the show.
As the band has an entire world tour scheduled, it seems unlikely that the new date will be any time soon. In addition, the venue, Glasgow Green, can only be used for gigs for a limited period each year.
Problems had already started to surface when the band played their London gigs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the beginning of July. The doors opened two hours late, and there were reports that Rose was suffering from anxiety and would be unable to appear on stage. However, when the band came on stage, Axl Rose was upfront, but crowd members reported sound issues, saying they could hardly hear the vocals.
Unlike the Dublin concert, they only played 22 songs. After the 7th song, “Estranged’ Rose told the crowd that he was ‘having issues’ with his voice. On the second night in London, they only played 19 songs. They did not perform Rocket Queen or November Rain which has been on their set list since they got back together.
By the time they played Munich, the setlist was back up to 25 songs, but Rose admitted that he had to switch them around vocally. Guitarist Richard Fortus revealed on social media that Axl had damaged his vocal cords and had not wanted to cancel the gig. They weren’t the only entertainers in trouble. Legendary singer Tom Jones canceled his show in Hungary this week due to health reasons.
Guns N’ Roses are one of the most iconic rock bands, and fans will be hoping that the new singing style will mean no more cancellations. While waiting to see rock legends, they might find themselves picking up merchandise adorned with the distinctive crumpled hat or tattoo-style rose and gun, which have become stand-along rock symbols. They might want to perform as Slash or Rose themselves by playing a game of Guitar Hero. Alternatively, fans can play a Guns N’ Roses video slot game developed by NetEnt and found at most of the popular online casinos. The game includes a soundtrack of the band’s classic hits.
The band will continue their world tour after the European leg has wound up. All being well, Rose’s vocal cords will have time to rest before they hit South America, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand in the fall.
