The Chicago Police Department told NBC 5 that there was a “call of service” at the building.
According to Total Traffic, Wabash Avenue was closed in both directions between Wacker Drive and Hubbard Street due to the incident.
In an interview with WBBM, a resident described the chaos inside the building.
“I was just doing some housework and cooking some, and I decided to get some air,” said the man posing as Steve.
“I came into the lobby and was quickly escorted out of the lobby and out of the building and told not to come back until it was clear,” the man said.
“I’ve asked multiple times what’s going on and they wouldn’t confirm,” he continued.
Residents were barred from entering the building for several hours Wednesday afternoon, according to the reporter the man spoke to.
FOX3Chicago shared video of the heavy police presence outside the building, including clips of several officers being spotted patrolling the scene.
