A man accidentally records himself being fired in a time-lapse video of a work routine

It’s pretty common these days for TikTokers to record and share their daily activities with their followers, including what a typical work day looks like for them.

And even if those videos don’t get much engagement or start earning you 4 cents per 1,000 views on the platformat least you can look back at your footage and see how you’re spending your time while you’re at work.

And these “come to work with me” videos are delivered in a variety of ways. Some people only show snippets of their daily routine and others, like The Unprofessional Chef, record the entire working day with a stationary camera in time lapse.

What the gentleman couldn’t have been prepared for, however, was that he was fired during his work block (it appears he’s a remote worker doing his job from his home office) and his camera was recording the whole thing at a breakneck pace . Even accelerated, the change can be seen in his demeanor and reactions, along with the fact that he shares the unfortunate news with his wife.

He writes in a text overlay on the video, “In that moment you document your work block style and end up doing a time lapse where you get fired.”

A few seconds into the clip, a text overlay appears on screen outlining the nature of the TikToker’s conversation with his boss:

“Manager: How was your vacation?

Me: It was great, but I’m glad to be back

Manager: Glad it went well…”

That wasn’t the end of their conversation, however: He adds:

“*HR joins the call*

Manager: We will proceed with the termination effective today

HR: After this call you will lose access to all logins”

In the rest of the video we see the TikToker taking some notes and there is a noticeable change in the way it behaves. When he logs off his computer, you see him stressed, in the video he is talking to someone off-screen; it is his wife.

“Me to my wife: I just got fired.”

Many people in the comments section wanted to know why he was fired from his position and he provided a follow up video during a cooking tutorial he uploaded to this TikTok account.

He said he would not disclose the company he works for, but that the company has year-end reports where managers review each employee’s cumulative performance. During his year in review, he asked what he needed to do to be considered for a promotion (he says the goals the company has set are pretty broad).

However, he was informed by management that he was not achieving the goals they expected of him and instead of speaking to him about a possible promotion they put him on a PIP (Performance Improvement Plan). There are some people out there who state that when a worker is put on a PIP it usually means management is just trying to cover their tracks before firing that worker, while others say that this is not necessarily always the case.

He said that while he disagreed with the performance improvement plan document his job asked him to sign, he still chose to put his signature on it and continue giving “5,000 percent” at work.

The TikToker went on to say that before receiving the PIP, he had planned a vacation to Mexico and despite the not-so-good news from his employer, went on the trip anyway.

He didn’t think he would be fired, just move to another position within the company. However, management had other plans and terminated his contract with the company.

He ended his video by taking the time to apologize to a former colleague whom he once cracked a hackneyed joke years ago without realizing he’d just been fired.
