A man accused of shooting an off-duty NYPD cop is arrested at an upstate hotel in the victim’s own handcuffs

A New York City man accused of shooting an off-duty NYPD officer in the head has been arrested after hiding at a hotel north of the city.
Photos showed suspect Randy Jones, 38, tied up and taken outside the hotel, where he was found hiding with his girlfriend and their children. The hotel was in Rockland County, northwest of Manhattan on the New Jersey border.
He is accused of shooting an unnamed 26-year-old officer in the head during a robbery gone wrong in East New York last Saturday. The officer, a father of two, survives.
The handcuffs used to arrest Jones reportedly belonged to the officer he allegedly shot.
Jones was taken to the 75th Precinct around 7 p.m. Monday night. He has not yet been charged but has hired an attorney, according to The New York Post.

The suspect allegedly ambushed the victim by pretending to sell a car through Facebook Marketplace.
The victim and his brother-in-law came with $24,000 in cash to buy the car — a Honda Pilot — when the suspect allegedly pointed a gun at them.
Then he is said to have opened fire and hit the officer in the head.
The victim’s brother snatched the officer’s gun and fired back, but the thief was able to escape in a black BMW.
After a citywide manhunt, the car was found abandoned in Harlem, near where the suspect lived with his girlfriend, according to The Post.
Sources also said the BMW belonged to the suspect’s mother, who lived near where the shooting occurred in East New York.
He is believed to be behind a similar robbery that took place near the scene of the crime on January 13.

Jones has a criminal record with at least 22 arrests for a variety of crimes, including some violent assaults.
According to The Post, he has already been charged with molestation, grand larceny and strangulation.
At the time of his arrest Monday, he was wanted on a 2019 traffic and vehicle-related warrant.
Jones has reportedly declined to answer questions from investigators.
“Our prayers go out to the officer and his family, of course, as he continues to fight for his life,” Gilford Monrose, faith adviser to Mayor Eric Adams, said at a vigil on Sunday.
The NYPD on Monday offered $10,000 to arrest the suspect.
“We will apprehend the person responsible for this act,” Adams said after the shooting. “One officer running a simple errand and one dangerous individual pulling a gun.
