A neighbor says the argument led to the Wyandotte police shooting

People who live near the scene of Monday’s police shooting in the Wyandotte neighborhood are helping to piece together what happened as we wait for the Louisville Metro Police Department to release more information. A man who lives across the street from the Salvation Army South Louisville Community Center told WLKY the whole situation started with an argument at his home on Beecher Street. He said the suspect and his girlfriend were hanging out at his house when things got heated and neighbors called police to break up the couple’s argument. But he said the situation escalated after officers arrived. According to the Louisville Metro Police Department, as officers approached the home, they saw a man in a car in the driveway with an AR-style pistol. Police said the man got out of the car. He allegedly ran through the backyard with the gun and police officers followed him. Neighbors described the heavy police presence just a block away on Camden Avenue, where the man was ultimately shot by police. “I just saw a couple of police cars. “I heard ambulances everywhere and all kinds of sirens,” Kenny McCubbins told WLKY. Louisville Metropolitan Police said officers told the man several times to drop the gun, but he pointed the gun at the officers. That’s when the department said an officer fired his weapon, striking the man. It all happened around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, leaving neighbor Kathy Clark worried about watching her grandchildren after school. “It’s kind of scary. Very frightening. It.” “You don’t want them playing outside,” she said. The day after the incident, police tape hung in the exact spot where another neighbor said it all started. The Louisville Metro Police Department will release the names of the man who was shot and the officers within three days of the shooting of all people involved, including the officer who shot him. Body camera video of the incident will be released within 10 business days. At last check, the man shot by police was in stable condition at UofL Hospital.
