A Queensland man is struck by lightning while playing golf amid heavy storms

A man is fighting for his life in hospital after being struck by lightning while playing golf – as ferocious storms ravage the region.

The man was hit at around 2.30pm on Sunday at the Wantima Golf Course in Brendale, north Brisbane.

Queensland Ambulance was called to the course, where paramedics treated the man.

He was taken to Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and is in critical condition.

Southeast Queensland is set for stronger storm activity for the remainder of Sunday afternoon.

Lightning strikes, heavy rains and damaging winds are expected to occur.

Brisbane, Logan, Moreton Bay and the Sunshine Coast were hit hardest by the weather.

The Bureau of Meterology warned that heavy rains in these regions could cause flooding.

“Heavy rain causing flash flooding remains likely in the warning area, with immediate impacts on #Caloundra, #NoosaHeads, #MoretonIsland and #Gympie,” the office said.

There’s more to come.
