Death of Montserrat Caballé

Montserrat Caballé was a Spanish operatic soprano, a term referring to the highest-voiced opera singer, widely admired for her versatility and phrasing.

Born on April 12, 1933 in Barcelona, ​​Spain, the star sadly passed away on October 6, 2018 at the age of 85, but the cause of death was not given.

Caballé suffered a stroke while on tour in Russia on October 20, 2012 in Yekaterinburg and was quickly transferred to the Hospital de Sant Pau in Barcelona.

In September 2018, she was admitted to the same hospital for a gallbladder problem and later died there in October.

Gallbladder disease can include inflammation, infection, stones, or a blockage of the gallbladder, a sac under the liver that stores and concentrates bile produced in the liver.

More about her life and younger self

Montserrat Caballé, whose full name is María de Montserrat Bibiana Concepción Caballé i Folch, grew up in a formerly middle-class family that struggled financially during the Depression of the 1930s and the Spanish Civil War.

Her parents managed to enroll her at the Conservatorio del Liceo at the age of 13, and she received an education that allowed her to sustain a long career without deterioration in her vocal quality Aljazeera reports.

She gained major international recognition in 1965 when she appeared in Donizetti’s Lucrezia Borgia at Carnegie Hall in New York, earning her a 25-minute standing ovation.

She was also admired for her performances in the operas of Giuseppe Verdi, Gaetano Donizetti and Richard Strauss.

The opera star married Spanish tenor Bernabe Marti in 1964 and they had two children, Montserrat Marti and Bernabe Marti.
