AC Milan in talks to sign £18m Arsenal player, permanent move

Claim of the Italian outlet TMW AC Milan are in talks to sign Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga on a permanent basis after a disappointing first season at The Emirates – despite costing the Gunners a decent £18million.

Lokonga, 22, was bought by the Gunners for almost £20million from Belgian club Anderlecht last summer. It comes after 78 appearances for Anderlecht despite his young age – but it’s a move that didn’t work.

In fact, the former Belgium international only made 24 appearances for Arsenal last season. The Gunners are still likely to seek a move for a holding midfielder. Lokonga was substituted very late on Friday against Crystal Palace.

Now TMW say Milan are in talks to sign Lokonga, not just on loan – but on a permanent basis. The Belgian contingent in Milan grows after the addition of Charles De Ketelaere. The report also says Arsenal are ready to sell him.

Ultimately, it’s a move that didn’t work out for Lokonga. There’s a player in there. But if he failed to break into a midfield that included a perpetually injured Thomas Partey and an inconsistent Granit Xhaka, then there are doubts.

He’s a player with potential but he needs to join a team where he plays football regularly. A site that suits his style more. Maybe the slower style of Serie A football suits him. He has a contract with Arsenal until 2026.

What fee could Arsenal bring in? He cost £18million. While struggling, he has added 25 games in all competitions to his resume in an Arsenal shirt. So if Milan paid a fee similar to Arsenal’s, maybe he will fly to Italy.
