After more than a month of fighting, much of Mariupol lies in ruins

Mariupol has been under siege by Russian troops and pro-Russian separatists for more than a month and has seen some of the fiercest house-to-house fighting in Ukraine’s conflict. The fighting has leveled much of the city and the civilian death toll is not yet known. Many residents could not be evacuated as they were trapped without power or essential supplies.

An analysis of satellite imagery by Masae Analytics, a company that uses photography to assess building damage, found much of the city had been hit on April 5.
