When the diagnosis came through, Gueye must have wiped a bead of sweat from his brow before heaving an almighty sigh of relief.

Het Niewsblad point out that the artboys are under pressure to raise money through player sales this summer. And Gueye isn’t just their top scorer – he scored 13 times last season – he’s also their best-selling asset.

Burnley is reportedly ready and willing to raise £4million for a man who caught the eye of Kompany during his time as manager of Belgian giants Anderlecht. The former Manchester City captain reportedly believes Gueye can thrive in a Clarets side that, thanks to the excellence of the likes of Dwight McNeil, Charlie Taylor and company, create most of their scoring chances from wide areas.

Gueye scored four headed goals in 2021/22 alone. And the former St Etienne youngster is likely to replace wanton Wout Weghorst at Turf Moor.

Besiktas president Ahmet Nur Cebi claimed on Monday that a deal to rescue the Netherlands international from the depths of the league should be finalized before the end of the week.

Gueye could join Scott Twine in a revamped attacking partnership at Burnley.
