Mikel Arteta has been slammed for his treatment of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at Arsenal.

Aubameyang had already terminated his contract with the Gunners in January and joined Barcelona on a free transfer.

The 33-year-old hitman was relieved of the captaincy by Arsenal manager Arteta and later banned entirely from the squad after disciplinary issues related to being late.

Footage from the North Londoners’ All-or-Nothing documentary has surfaced on Amazon this week.

And Gabby Agbonlahor finds it “shocking” to see such a player being treated like this by his manager – who makes £160,000 a week [The Sun] – back then.

He kept writing Twitter:

It was the Gabonese international who ultimately got the last laugh in the 2021/22 season.

Aubameyang was handed £7million to leave Arsenal and later reminded Europe that he is among the continent’s greatest strikers after a string of goals in Spain – including a brace at European champions Real Madrid.

That being said, it looks like Arsenal have landed on their feet.

Gabriel Jesus was signed as his primary backup this summer and the Brazilian scored two goals and set up two more today as Arteta’s side beat Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium.

It was an impressive overall performance which means Arsenal fans are unlikely to be left pining for Aubameyang this season, whether he joins Chelsea or continues to score plenty of goals.
