Adebayo Akinfenwa has called Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips a ‘baller’. as he told Sky Sports.
The Wycombe striker, who is ranked as the strongest footballer in the world according to FIFA, explained that the Leeds midfielder is currently not included in his final squad for the World Cup in England as he is injured.
Luckily for someone like Phillips, the World Cup in Qatar doesn’t take place in the summer but in November.
This allows the 26-year-old to leave his best form to start next season and return to the Three Lions roster.
Nonetheless, here’s what Akinfenwa had to say about Phillips and whether he would be in his final 2022 World Cup squad in Qatar.
“I think he’s a baller,” said Akinfenwa. “I can only go off of the players who played.
“I know there is still a bit of work to do next season. But if we start now, Phillips won’t play. That’s all I’m going. But that’s just gone now.
“But he’s a baller and coming back next season then it’s a different conversation.”
At Euro 2020, Phillips was one of his country’s star men as they narrowly missed out on glory.
Although the hard-hitting midfielder had never played in a major tournament before, both thrived in the middle of the park, as did his accomplice Declan Rice.
Gareth Southgate is loyal to his players and it’s a partnership the England boss won’t forget, even if he hasn’t used it much since.
It’s all about Phillips being ready and injury-free for the World Cup because he’s going to be one of the key players in his side.
