Alan Shearer jokes he would like the Spurs player to leave English football

Alan Shearer has jokingly told Harry Kane to “go abroad” when asked if the Tottenham Hotspur hitman broke his Premier League record.

The Newcastle United icon is the competition’s all-time leading goalscorer 260 high profile goals.

However, the Tottenham sensation has a real chance of breaking that record.

The 28-year-old, who will turn 29 in a month, has scored 183 Premier League goals, leaving 77 behind Shearer.

And while that remains a huge deficit, the legendary shooter has conceded that Kane has a “really good chance” of doing it.

He said Sky Sports: “He has a really good opportunity to do it. He’s a fantastic player. I know he wants it – badly – so yeah, he has a really good chance of doing it. I think he should be abroad!”

Could Kane break Alan Shearer’s record?

In a word, definitely.

But will he? Well, that’s a whole different question.

Kane wasn’t even Tottenham’s top scorer last season as Son Heung-min shared the Premier League Golden Boot with Mohamed Salah.

This could perhaps be due to the fact that the England international seemed to play in a somewhat deeper position under Antonio Conte and often created opportunities rather than converted them.

With Spurs reportedly in the market for a playmaker this summer, the creative burden could well fall on someone else next season, which could theoretically allow Kane to rediscover his best talisman.

But as long as he enjoys a slight change in positional play, Shearer’s record has a better chance of staying intact for a while.
