Alexa Promotes Dangerous TikTok Coin Challenge, Amazon Quickly Fixes It

On December 28, the parents of a 10-year-old girl arrived and announced that Alex had challenged their daughter to the dangerous coin challenge from TikTok. Amazon was quick to fix this.

Over the years, a number of dangerous trends have become popular on TikTok, and some of them have resulted in serious injuries and deaths. While the platform is quick to ban such videos, things have not always been easy.

On December 28, due to a technical error, Alexa also asked a 10-year-old child to perform a challenge that could lead to serious injury.

Alexa asks users to do a coin challenge

Kristin Livdahl, the child’s mother, recalls her daughter asking Alexa to do a challenge. To this, Alexa replied: “Plug the phone charger about halfway into the wall outlet, then tap a dime on the exposed prong.”

Talking about what led to the question, Kristin said: “We did some physical challenges, such as lying down and rolling over holding a shoe on your foot, from a [physical education] teacher on YouTube before. Bad weather outside. She just wanted another one.”

This is where Alexa proposes a challenge it has “found on the web”. After Amazon learned of this, the company quickly fixed the problem.

Answer BBC, the company admits it’s made the necessary changes to ensure Alexa doesn’t suggest such challenges in the future. In a statement, they said: “Customer trust is at the heart of everything we do, and Alexa is designed to provide accurate, relevant and helpful information to our customers. As soon as we realized this error, we quickly took action to fix it. “

Do not challenge a dime

The coin challenge became popular in 2020 after some users tried it on TikTok.

This was criticized by everyone. Talking to New York Post, Massachusetts Fire Police Peter J. Ostroskey, says the cruise tends to cause “sparks, electrical system damage, and in some cases fires.”

He also asked people to alert “local news outlets, school officials and parent organizations about this challenge,” adding that it is best to “not just look for signs of fires such as fires but also conversations about fire and electrical safety with teenagers and young adults. “
