Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez supports Biden’s re-election campaign

NEW YORK (AP) – Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has endorsed President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign, sending a strong show of Democratic unity from one of the party’s most liberal members.
“I think he’s done quite well given the limitations that we have,” Ocasio-Cortez said Thursday on the Pod Save America podcast. “I do believe that there are ups and downs.”

Ocasio-Cortez, a self-proclaimed Democratic Socialist from New York, has at times taken a stand against Biden and the party’s leaders, including the deal the president brokered with Republicans in May to raise the country’s debt ceiling and when single Democratic vote against a spending policy Bill to keep government functioning and avoid a partial government shutdown.

She endorsed Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary and disagreed in an interview last year when asked if she would endorse the incumbent president in 2024.
Biden faces nominal main challenges for next year’s election: self-help author Marianne Williamson and anti-vaccine Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
When asked if she would support Biden, Ocasio said, “I think in that area, yes.”

The congresswoman said she felt Biden got off to a good start in his presidency with the passage of America’s bailout plan aimed at alleviating the effects of the pandemic and the Inflation Reduction Act, a key climate and public health law.
“But,” Ocasio-Cortez said, “there are also areas that I feel could have gone better.”
