Alison Hammond reveals that Dermot O’Leary has joined her at the DOCTOR

Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary have recalled the funny moment when they traveled to the doctor’s office together after the presenter’s son fell ill.

The couple admitted they left Operation Starstruck staff behind when they arrived together so Alison’s son could be treated, having planned to spend the day at their Birmingham home.

Describing the couple’s impromptu outing, Dermot also revealed that he asked him to take his height at the doctor’s and the duo then went to the pharmacy, where they left the staff there even more stunned.

Speaking to Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett on the Dish podcast, Dermot and Alison explained that they originally planned to meet up at her house to record the show when their son fell ill.

“So I wanted to cancel Dermot because Aidan had a really sore throat. And I was like, you know what, I’ll just take Aidan to the doctors, you know, Dermot can chill in the house, whatever,” Alison explained.

“Anyway, the next thing I know he’s like, ‘I’m coming with you.’ I said, ‘No, you really don’t have to come,’ ‘No, I’m coming.’ Oh my god, it was hilarious.

“We got to the doctors, they were all so impressed with Dermot, went to the doctors, he sits with the doctors, we’re waiting for the doctor, he comes to the doctors -” before Dermot continued: “I did it .” I don’t think I would go to the doctor but until then I was like I was getting a dime for a pound.

Alison then continued: “I thought that was Aidan’s TV dad. We all sat down. So we do that, obviously he’s trying to explain what’s wrong with that throat and she talks through it.

“And then all I can remember is a cut to Dermot being measured by the doctor because he wants to know how big it is.”

Dermot and Alison assured the audience that Aidan had been prescribed antibiotics for his sore throat, but then started a discussion with the GP about who was bigger.

“Once the initial danger passed and we knew he might need a little bit of antibiotics, and Alison became a full-fledged Jamaican mother, she said, ‘Can you sign him off or can’t you sign him off work? What’s going on here?” Added Dermot.

“Alison basically wrote the recipe for him, on the thing. Wow, so impressive. And then I looked up — and me and Alison always had a problem with who’s taller, and I said, “Doctor is, is that correct?” she said, yes. And so it was like, “Can I measure how tall I am?”

Alison insisted Dermot was five feet seven inches tall, but he replied that he was actually two inches taller.

Continuing their hilarious story, the couple then recalled the moment they walked to the pharmacy together, in “a tiny little suburb of Birmingham”.

Dermot explained: “We went into the pharmacy and we were in the pharmacy, three of us in the pharmacy and the woman comes out Mrs Perkins and I turn around and by then we’re kind of like, we…”

Alison then continued, “You had a job in the actual pharmacy,” with Dermot repeatedly asking, “Are you Mrs. Perkins?” for 15 minutes.

“We all kept going. “Mrs. Blacksmith?” Alison then continued, leaving hosts Nick and Angela in hysterics.

During the interview, Alison and Dermot also opened up about their annual This Morning Christmas party, where they were joined by surprise guests James Blunt and Chris Evans.

The couple revealed the two stars had arrived with a group of contest winners, with Dermot harrying Alison with a double Baileys.

Alison said, “I said don’t give me alcohol.” Dermot added, “Just for the record, a double Baileys doesn’t really count.”

‘I thought, Dermot, listen, I don’t want to drink anything, I just want to keep it nice and cool. Right now…” Alison said, as Dermot admitted he was a “great enabler”.

Alison admitted she did “Reels on the table” before joining Chris and James for a single long.

Dermot revealed: “And then Blunt made a French exit, he said ‘Guys I have to go, thanks a lot, I have to go. Help yourself to everything but I really have to go,” before Alison revealed, “And then he left, it’s on the house.”

But Dermot said it was Chris who said it was all on the house, before James insisted: “No, no, definitely not.”

Earlier this month, Dermot announced that Alison had finally beaten Ant and Dec to be crowned the nation’s favorite TV presenter and received her award live on This Morning.

She missed out on the Best Presenter award at the National Television Awards in October, when Ant and Dec took the award again.

But she has now put it into the post after being presented with the title by the first-ever Entertainment Daily Awards on Thursday morning.

She competed against fellow presenters Holly Willoughby, Phillip Schofield, Josie Gibson, Ant McPartlin, Declan Donnelly, Stephen Mulhern, Steph McGovern and Joel Dommett.

“We have a little surprise for you, Alison Hammond,” revealed Dermot.

“We all know you lost to Ant and Dec at the NTAs, but you actually beat them and won the title of Best-Loved Presenter at the Entertainment Daily Awards!”

She jumped up and down and squeaked, “Are you kidding?! Thank you very much! That is amazing!

‘Oh, that’s really nice, thanks ED!. I didn’t know this was happening today! I didn’t know anything about it.’

She then added: “I’m honored and I really appreciate it, thank you so much, I’m blown away.”
