Ally awards over $188,000 to budding HBCU entrepreneurs

Several talented historically Black college and university students with entrepreneurial dreams have taken a step closer to their goals by winning the Moguls in the Making competition.

At Ally’s invitation, in partnership with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, sixty students – 15 HBCU teams of four students each – were asked to come up with an idea to support economic mobility in Charlotte, one of Ally’s home markets, and then start a business plan to put these ideas into action.

The competition, which lasted 72 hours, gave HBCU students the knowledge to create business plans, present those plans and more. Each team had 10 minutes to present their concepts to a jury, which awarded prizes to the top three teams based on the pitch.

Top Moguls in the Making winners received Ally Scholarship and prize money

The members of the top teams each received a 2023 school year scholarship, guaranteed summer 2023 paid internship opportunities at Ally, and other awards to support their education. Ally’s commitment to diversity at his company has been at the forefront of the Moguls in the Making competition, which has featured over 36 winners since the program began in 2019.

“One of our goals with MITM is to nurture new talent to join our team at Ally – we believe everyone brings a unique perspective to our company, which makes us stronger.

Each year, the top three teams in the competition win an internship at Ally, and all MITM participants are offered the opportunity to apply for an internship.

Since the program’s first year in 2019, Ally has hired 36 of the Moguls participants as interns and 12 as full-time employees in various roles.”
