Amazon workers in New York vote to create Tech Giant’s first US union

Amazon.com Inc. warehouse workers in New York have voted to create the tech giant’s first union in the US, marking a major victory for union activists who have long sought to represent the country’s second-largest private employer.
Workers at the JFK8 facility, Amazon’s largest on Staten Island, voted 2,654 to 2,131 to organize, the National Labor Relations Board said Friday. The workers’ group, which calls itself the Amazon Labor Union, received a clear majority of the votes cast, despite several dozen disputed or invalid votes. According to NLRB data, more than 57% of the facility’s approximately 8,300 eligible voters cast valid ballots.
