American aid worker released after lengthy detention by Taliban

The Taliban released an Afghan-American humanitarian worker along with his brother after several months in captivity to resolve one of the many disputes that are fueling tensions between the new Afghan government and Western nations, which are withholding financial support while protecting the group’s intentions judge.

Safi Raufa Virginia-based aid worker who helped thousands leave Afghanistan when the Taliban took power last August, and his brother, Anees Khalil, were released and flown to Qatar, according to activists working with the couple. Mr. Khalil is a permanent resident of the United States.
