“American Idol” 2022 Winners & Spoilers: Top 14 Results

On the April 18, 2022, two-hour episode of ABC’s “American Idol,” six artists from the top 20 were eliminated from the competition. First, the top 10 were announced based on viewer votes.

Then the remaining 10 fought for four spots hoping to be saved by judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.

SPOILER ALERT: Below are spoilers for the Monday, April 18 episode of “American Idol.”

American Idol 2022 Top 14 Live Recap

The show began with a brief recap of the previous night, and then Ryan Seacrest introduced Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Katy Perry.

Ryan called first Ava Maybee. To celebrate, she performed Lizzo’s “‘Cuz I Love You.” Next Ryan called Christian Guardin took the stage and also placed safely in the top 14. To celebrate, he sang “Creep” by Radiohead.

Cameron Whitcomb was the next to take center stage and he had to perform for the judges’ parade. He settled on the Steeldrivers’ “If It Hadn’t Been For Love,” and he actually stood in place with his hand on the mic for much of the performance, which impressed the judges. He said he “really really wants to be here.”

Allegra Miles was the next to take center stage, and she sang an original song titled “Tainted.” Lionel told her that “it’s obvious there’s an artist in her” and that she might not have connected to someone else’s song the night before.

Then, Lady K was called down. She was voted in the top 14. After a commercial break, Ryan called huntress to the stage.

Katyra was next up, and she didn’t finish in the top 14. She chose Chaka Khan’s Through the Fire. The judges loved it and basically told her she was in the top 14.

Cadence Baker was called up next, and she decided to sing Whitney Houston’s “I’m Your Baby Tonight” to save the judges. Katy told her she sounded good and that the song was perfect for her.

Ryan called country singers Dan Marshall on the ground after this performance and was also told that he was safe. The next candidate Ryan called was Leah Marlene, and she was safe too.

Nicolina next entered the stage and she was marked safe. sage was next, and she had to sing for the save, and she sang Alan Stone’s “Brown Eyed Lover” for her shot at that save. The judges liked it, and Lionel said, “That’s how you get out after bad news.”

jay, a platinum ticket winner, was next and was not selected in the top 10. He sang “Believer” by Imagine Dragons. The judges liked it and said he bragged about why they gave him the platinum ticket in the first place.

Noah Thompson was next, and he said it was his 20th birthday. He was dialed through. Jacob Moran was next called up by Ryan and he was not voted in the top 10, meaning he had to sing. He sang “Rise” by Katy Perry. Katy said she would “retire” this song from now on.

Ellie Rowe was next in line, and she also had to sing for the save. She performed “All I Want” by Kodaline. Lionel called her a “victim” for being in her lane competitively. Emyrson Flora was the next person to get the news of being sent straight into the top 14.

Mike Parker was the next artist to be appointed by Ryan. Luke said he’s a “huge fan” of Mike, saying he has a “great song selection” and was “shocked” he wasn’t put through right away.

Fritz Hager and Dreary Gresset Both took the stage as the two contestants left, and Fritz was the one who made it through voices, meaning Tristen had to sing for his life. He played “Are You Gonna Go My Way” by Lenny Kravitz. Katy loved it, calling him a “rock star no matter what.”

The judges decided to save Allegra Miles, Jay Copeland, Mike Parker and Tristen Gressett.
