American Idol champ joins Dancing With the Stars

FOX
Congratulations are in order “American Idol” Sixth Season Masters Jordan Sparks when throwing “Dance with the Stars” Season 31. Here’s what she said about her new adventure and what you need to know about her partner:
Sparks said she believes she was on American Idol, which gives her an edge
That Cast Announcement came “Good Morning America” on Thursday September 8th. In her interview on the show, Sparks said she was “so excited,” but she was also a little nervous, although she felt American Idol prepared her a little bit for this show.
spark said:
I’m so excited to be with these people. We only met a lot of the cast this morning so it’s really cool for us to see who we’re going to be with over the next few weeks. I’m really, really excited. Scared but really excited…
I find [“American Idol”] kinda gives me a little advantage that I’ve already been on a reality show of a competition so I understand the live performances, I understand that the judges it’s not a personal thing they have to tell us that’s the criticism and that’s what it’s going to do, but I’m kind of nervous – when I sing, I know I can sing. You say sing a song and I say, “Okay, I’m fine. But telling me to dance without singing is a bit different, so I’m nervous.
Sparks’ official Dancing With the Stars bio reads:
Jordin Sparks is a GRAMMY-nominated, multi-platinum singer/songwriter and actress who won season six of “American Idol” in one of the highest-rated seasons on the show. She attracted worldwide attention as the youngest winner, just 17 years old.
Their self-titled debut went platinum and sold over 2 million copies worldwide. The first three singles from “Jordin Sparks” reached the Top 5, and the album’s second single, “No Air”, sold four million digital downloads. “No Air” is the third best-selling single of any “American Idol” contestant and charted at #27 on Billboard’s Top 40 Biggest Duets of All Time. Sparks’ second release, Battlefield, debuted at #7 on the Billboard albums chart. Collectively, Sparks’ popular singles have sold over 10 million digital tracks in the United States
It ended by saying, “Now when she’s not working hard on her next album (which is due out this year) she enjoys spending time with her family, her husband Dana Isaiah and their son DJ.”
Sparks is paired with Brandon Armstrong
Brandon Armstrong is a relatively new professional dancer on Dancing With the Stars. His first season as the partner of a celebrity was season 27 in 2018. He’s never had a breakthrough year on the show, finishing somewhere between 12th and ninth place, so maybe Sparks will be the partner he has at Mirrorball can join trophy.
On InstagramSparks said that she and Armstrong have “put everything into it” at rehearsals so far.
Sparks wrote:
The rumors are true… let’s do this @DancingWithTheStars!!!! ✨✨
I’ve been preparing for this for quite some time and couldn’t be more excited to swap my mic 🎤 for the mirror ball 💃🏾
My partner @brandonarmstrong and I rehearse every day and put ALL we have into it.
I mean, you know, I’m pretty familiar with competitive shows… 😉
On her Instagram Stories, she quipped, “You may know me because I was the youngest winner to win ‘American Idol.’ I just met my partner from Dancing With the Stars and he’s fine I guess. He’s fine.”
On his own Instagram, Armstrong added, “Season 31 and I couldn’t be with a better partner! @jordinsparks and I make the dream team! Please someone tell me how to breathe without air!?”
While Sparks is the first “American Idol” champion to enter the ballroom, she’s not the first “American Idol” contestant to do so — “Idol” runner-up Lauren Alaina finished fourth in season 28; “Idol” contestant Jimmie Allen (who later became a mentor on “Idol”) ended season 30 in seventh place; and American Idol finalist Kellie Pickler actually won season 16 with Derek Hough.
Dancing With the Stars returns Monday, September 19 for its 31st season on Disney Plus.
