American Idol viewers ‘disappointed’ with top 20 result

The top 20 contestants for season 20 of ABC’s “American Idol” were announced during the three-hour episode that aired Sunday, April 17.

Contestants were split into two groups prior to the top 24 round, meaning two contestants from each round were sent to the top 20 based on viewer votes.

Longtime American Idol host Ryan Seacrest announced the results during the Top 20 episode, and when word broke that Dan Marshall would come through against Scarlet Ayliz and Danielle Finn, some viewers were upset.

Fans find Marshall “boring”

In which Live thread on Reddit As fans debate the episode, some complained that Marshall made it over some of the other contestants.

“Gosh, I hope Dan goes home tomorrow.” one person wrote.

Another commented, “Egg. That carnivore??? For real???”

“Dan was by far the worst in this group. I’m so disappointed in America, but not sadly surprised.” another person wrote.

another wrote“I can literally go and hear a mediocre white boy from a famous college sing in the church if I wanted to AND I DON’T WANT.”

“Of the last three, Scarlett should have gotten over Dan. She had the most vocal ability and Danielle never had a solid performance after her audition.” one person commented.

Others said they just didn’t want Marshall to win the competition.

Some people on Twitter were also upset with the results.

“You must be kidding me. Of course the plain white guy with a guitar did it.” reads a tweet.

another wrote, “Dan serves me karaoke… sorry #AmericanIdol.”

Others defended Marshall.

“Dan Marshall going to be easy going, yup brings out that guitar and country twang #AmericanIdol” reads a tweet.

Marshall performed the Garth Brooks classic “Friends In Low Places” for his Top 20 performance, and judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie told him he was already good enough to get the show on the road . Perry particularly liked his stage presence and the way he interacted with and entertained the audience.

Competitors who were in the top 24 but didn’t make it to the top 20 were Kenedi Anderson, who have withdrawn from the competition Sir Blayke, Danielle Finn and Scarlet Ayliz.

“American Idol” airs Sundays and Mondays at 8 p.m. Eastern and Pacific time on ABC.
