American Idol’s Noah Thompson shares a snippet from a new song

American Idol Season 20 contestant Noah Thompson will release his first single of the season, “One Day Tonight,” on Friday, May 13, 2022.

The single is part of the top 7 singles for “American Idol” which they perform during the show. Last season, Chayce Beckham’s song “23” was a smash hit, staying at number one for several weeks after its release.

Thompson’s song sounds like a traditional country storytelling song.

Thompson shared a snippet of the song

shared Thompson shared a snippet of his song on Instagram and wrote: “Here’s a little taste of #onedaytonight. #Counting down the days.”

“Once in a while after work on a Friday night/you lean into a bottle of wine/and I just sip and watch her talk about always/I have to admit it might be my favorite thing,” he sings in the clip.

Thompson will be able to perform his song if he makes it to the show’s finale, which he has a good chance of doing at the time of writing. He has a huge following and a lot of positive reactions to his single.

Although Thompson had to perform from his hotel room during the Top 7 show, he was sent straight into the Top 5 after the nationwide vote.

Some are confused about Thompson’s song titles

After the song titles were released, some fans were confused about Thompson’s choice.

“‘One Day Tonight’ is as confusing a song title as Noah is as a top five finalist,” said one person wrote on Reddit. “(I don’t mind the guy. I just never got the feeling he wanted to be on American Idol.)”

Another person wrote, “I hate his song title. I don’t think he doesn’t want to be there. I think he’s really never believed in himself and he’s always in a state of, ‘Is this really happening?’”

Some fans even went so far as to ask if Thompson wants a career outside of music.

“But do you think he has the drive to make this a career?” one person wrote. “It just seems like the other 4 tried so hard to make it in the music business (even before Idol) and take it so seriously and want to win so badly, and then there’s Noah, who looks like he’d be just as happy just going back to his old life when he’s eliminated.

they added “He never takes any risks or seems nervous about results or seems like he’s trying to develop his skills. I like him ok he has an ok voice and seems like a really nice guy but the other 4 seem to want to win so much more than him and have a career in music.”

Other people look forward to hearing his song.

“I look forward to hearing all 5, but especially Noah’s.” one person wrote.

Another answered, “I was looking forward to Noah’s too, but not as much after hearing the clip. Noah has always been hit and miss for me… And the snippet is so ‘generic country’ that I can’t imagine anyone, including Noah, actually making the connection to it.”

“American Idol” airs live coast-to-coast on ABC on Sundays at 8 p.m. Eastern Time.
