FX’s upcoming anthology American sports history has found his Aaron Hernandez.
Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes Star Josh Andrés Rivera has been tapped to portray the troubled former NFL star in executive producer Ryan Murphy’s anthology series.
First the series announced In August 2021, Murphy’s will expand American The franchise examines a significant event involving a female athlete from the perspective of today’s world and tells the story from multiple perspectives. The first season is based on that Boston Globe and Wondery Podcast Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc.
The season will chronicle the rise and fall of the former New England Patriots tight end, who was convicted of murder and ultimately took his own life. Thematically, the various aspects of his identity, his family, his career, his suicide and their legacy in sports and American culture are examined.
Stu Zicherman (The American) will write the script and produce the series alongside Murphy, Brad Falchuk, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Alexis Martin Woodall and Wondery’s Hernan Lopez and Marshall Lewy The Boston Globes Linda Pizutti Henry and Ira Napoliello.
Rivera’s credits include a role as Chino in 2021 West Side Storythe upcoming one Hunger Games Feature film in which he plays Sejanus Plinth and the feature film Cat lover. He is represented by Paradigm and Jackoway Austen.
