Angry Psaki dumps Manchin for ‘breach of commitment’, a ‘sudden and inexplicable’ betrayal

Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) has not only angered his Democratic colleagues with his stance on President Joe Biden’s trillion-dollar spending plan, but he has also become a target. target of White House fury.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki has criticized the West Virginia Democrat for claiming he will not vote on Biden’s Build Better Back bill, calling out Manchin for the “inexplicable reversal.” in a scathing statement on Sunday.

Manchin told Fox News on Sunday: “I made the reservation when I first heard about it five and a half months ago. “I’ve always said this, if I can’t go home and explain it to the people of West Virginia, I can’t vote for it. And I cannot vote to continue with this piece of legislation. I just can’t… I can’t get there. ”

His remarks provoked far-left congressional Democrats, with Congressman Ilhan Omar completely call him out for “bullsh-t.”

In one statement released on Sunday, Psaki went after Manchin for making comments that were said to be “contradictory” to his previous stance.

“Senator Manchin’s comments this morning on FOX contrast with his discussions this week with the President, with White House staff, and with his public statements. A few weeks ago, Senator Manchin committed to the President, at his home in Wilmington, to support the Build Back Better framework that the President subsequently announced. Senator Manchin pledged repeatedly to negotiate to finalize that framework ‘in good faith,’ Psaki said.

She noted that the senator directly gave Biden “directly” a “written outline for the Rebuild Better bill that is about the same size and scope as the President’s framework and includes many of the priorities.” similar precedent.”

“While that framework lacks key priorities, we believe it can lead to a compromise that is acceptable to all. Senator Manchin promised to continue the conversations in the coming days, and work with us to reach that common ground,” she recounted.

“If his FOX comments and written statements indicate the end of that effort, they represent an abrupt and inexplicable reversal of his position, and violate his commitment to the President and fellow Senators in the House and Senate,” added Psaki.

She continued to punch holes in his opposition, dismissing Manchin’s concerns about inflation and spending while defending the bill.

“But this plan has been paid in full, is the largest fiscally responsible bill Congress has considered in years, and reduces the deficit in the long run,” she announced.

Psaki swears that Manchin will continue to be pressed to change his mind.

“Just as Senator Manchin reversed his position on Build Back Better this morning, we will continue to press him to see if he reverses his position again, to honor his previous commitments and stay true to his word,” she said.

“The fight to build back better is too important to give up. We will look to move forward next year,” concluded Psaki.
