Ant and Dec cheekily hit back at a fan who was upset that they appeared in Tuesday’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! unveiled the World Cup match between Australia and France live.

The Geordie duo poked fun at Australia’s 4-1 loss to France during one of their presentation segments, which angered a viewer who hadn’t seen the game.

The bewildered soccer fan wrote: “Trust @antanddec to unnecessarily reveal soccer scores right before the highlights. I’m not sure what they find funny.”

The pair then cheekily hit back, tweeting from their joint account: “We took the mick out of our Australian crew after losing at the World Cup.

“I don’t understand what you don’t understand!? Maybe stop watching live TV and stay away from Twitter if you want to control what you do and don’t hear.

Just before they announced their score, Dec opened one of their segments by saying, “Welcome back to I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here live from Australia 1, France 4. Sorry, was that too early? “

“They hate us now,” Ant, 47, quipped as they were booed backstage by the Australian crew members.

And it seemed like fans agreed with Ant and Dec’s reaction to the angry fan, as one wrote: “You wanted to avoid the Australia goal so you decided to see a show by two big football fans IN AUSTRALIA? ??? ah….’

Another added: “Of course they will mention they love football lol”.

And a third said: “It’s hardly a national secret”.

Elsewhere in the episode, Boy George was the fourth housemate to be evicted from the jungle.

The singer, 61, was named among the bottom two after the public cast their vote along with radio DJ Chris Moyles, 48.

After hosts Ant and Dec announced the news, the Culture Club star hugged his housemates and told them, “I’ll tell you how it’s like when I’m outside.”

In his exit interview, the pop star said: “I’m kind of ready. I had a great time and I did a lot of things I thought I would never do. I look forward to seeing my sister.’

George described his time in the jungle as “beautifully challenging” and “a bit enlightening” and said it allowed him to go on an “inner journey”.

On how he managed to stay sane in camp, he said: “I had to forget who I was all this time here, I had to let it go. I just had to get over it.

“I just had to say, ‘I’m in the jungle, I had no control.’

He added: “I’m happy to go today to be honest. It’s not something I thought I would ever do, but it’s a lot harder than I thought it would be.

“I think it really makes you appreciate what you have and the people you love.”

The musician said he would love to see ex-rugby player Mike Tindall or ex-footballer Jill Scott win.

Of Mike he said: “He was the most stoic, he did the most. I think he’s a lot wilder than he’s letting on,” before concluding, “I think Mike or even Jill.”

George’s departure drew a mixed reaction from fans, with many taking to social media to voice their opinions.

One person agreed with the public vote for George’s exit, writing on Twitter: “Hilarious! He’s out because he was relentlessly spiteful and mean. It’s not complicated.”

Referring to politician Matt Hancock, who stayed on the reality show longer than George, another person tweeted: “Boy George learns he’s LESS popular than Health Secretary after major pandemic! Hilarious.’

Another viewer, who was happy to see George leave, wrote: “I’m glad boy George is out. I believe in kindness and I want people to be kind to Matt Hancock.

However, not all viewers were unimpressed as one person wrote: “@BoyGeorge you were amazing amazing amazing in the jungle!! Sorry to see you go, you made the show for me.’

Another fan shared: “I thought Boy George was fabulous. Talk plainly, don’t be afraid of confrontation & play to laugh. Granted, he’s a bit of a diva, but I think that adds to his charm.”

“I thought it was great – individual and entertaining – there are some lovely people in it, namely Owen and Jill, and the rest is boring,” shared another viewer. “In a world where we’re trying to encourage people to be who they are, there’s a lot of hate for Boy George — being himself and respect for it.”
