Antonio Conte’s name drops Arsenal, West Ham, Wolves and Manchester United when discussing the top four race

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte has said at Thursday’s press conference – according to Football London – that the race for fourth place is not over yet. He named Arsenal, West Ham, Manchester United and Wolves in his analysis.

Tottenham have given themselves their best chance of qualifying for Champions League football after seven league wins in nine – and maximum points from the last four. They are fourth, three points ahead of Arsenal.

The Gunners have a game on their hands but it’s going to Chelsea. West Ham have played an extra game and are sitting six behind, while United are also six behind – but have played the same as Spurs. Wolves are eight behind, played 32.

Spurs are therefore looking good to qualify for the Champions League and are expected to beat Brighton at home on Saturday. However, Brighton have just ended a run of seven defeats to beat Arsenal. Conte gave his verdict.

“My players have a great desire to be protagonists in this competition, but we know very well that other teams are very strong. Arsenal, United, West Ham and Wolverhampton are in the same race with us,” said Conte.

“But we want to fight to the end and we’ll see what happens at the end of the season. The Champions League is a competition that every club, player and manager wants to take part in. He can change your life.”

Conte in top four: Can Arsenal, West Ham, Wolves or United catch Spurs?

Right now it’s a two-team shootout – three in one. West Ham’s continued form in the Europa League has affected their league form and a 2-0 defeat by Brentford last time out has ended any chance of a fourth-place finish.

Wolves are five points behind, have slipped in recent games and have played more than Spurs. United are just two wins behind having played the same games and that could work in their favor – albeit unlikely.

It all depends on Arsenal being able to beat Chelsea at their game – and then go to Tottenham on May 12 and win. Unlikely at the moment.
