Easter weekend often has adjusted opening and closing times for all your favorite shops, restaurants and grocery stores. Some places are even completely closed, but what about the UK and US banks?

Are US banks open on Easter Monday 2022?

Easter Monday is not a federal holiday in the US, so banks are not required by law to close. However opening times may vary so we recommend calling your local bank to double check.

As it is not a federal holiday, this means that all banks in America should be open. Including some of the top institutions; JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America and Wells Fargo & Co.

Easter Monday is not a public holiday in any US state, like Good Friday, which is recognized as a public holiday in 12 states. However, North Dakota informally celebrates Monday along with certain cities in New York, Michigan and Indiana.

UK banks opening hours on Easter Monday

In the UK, Easter Monday is an official bank holiday, meaning most banks are closed all day. They are expected to reopen as usual on Tuesday.

Barclays, Halifax, HSBC, Lloyds, NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland, Santander and TSB will all close. The only bank open on Easter Monday is Metro Bank, whose branches are open from 11am to 5pm. All of their shops are open 7 days a week, 362 days a year. The only exceptions are New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday and Christmas Day.

Are shops open on Easter Monday?

Yes, most stores in the US and UK are open, they may have different opening and closing times.

For example, on Easter Monday most Morrisons shops are open from 7am to 8pm, with some staying open until 10pm. Aldi is open on Easter Monday from 8am to 8pm and the opening hours are the same as Lidl.

On Easter Monday, Sainsbury’s Local is open from 7am to 11pm. Most Waitrose & Partners stores are also open from 8am to 8pm, with some Little Waitrose open from 6am to midnight.
