Paradoxical Pokémon are either future or past versions of many of the Pokémon in Scarlet & Violet’s Pokédex. You can capture them later in the game in Area Zero. But since there are many things in the game that are shiny locked, from starters to Pokemon traded by NPCs, you might be wondering if Paradox Pokemon are also shiny locked. let’s find out
Can I hunt Paradox Pokémon in Scarlet & Violet shiny?
Since Paradox Pokémon are naturally found in the “wilderness,” they are not shiny locked. There is always a 1/4096 chance of seeing a Shiny Paradox Pokémon. You can even eat sandwiches outside of Area Zero and keep the shiny encounter boosting effects upon entering.
Hunting becomes more difficult since there are no mass breakouts for them. As such, we recommend that you wait until you have the Shiny Charm before attempting to hunt Paradox Pokémon shiny.

What Pokemon are included in Scarlet & Violet Shiny?
Of course, just because Paradox Pokémon aren’t shiny locked doesn’t mean all Pokémon are. Below is a list of Shiny Locked Pokémon in Scarlet & Violet:
- Starter Pokémon early in the game (but Fuecoco, Quaxlyl, and Sprigatitio can be hunted brilliantly later)
- Pokemon traded by NPCs
- Titan Pokémon
- The Four Treasures of Destruction (Ting Lu, Chien-Pao, Wo-Chien, and Chi-Yu)
- The Boxart Legends (Koraidon and Miraidon)
Some of these shiny locked Pokemon are given away at events either as prizes or as secret gifts. To claim them, open your menu and go to the Poké Portal.
