Just minutes after the end of the second season on Japanese TV last week, the official website of the series announced that an OVA episode is in production.

Arifureta season 3 could start production immediately

While there is no official news regarding Arifureta Season 3, the future remains extremely bright for Hajime and Yue as they prepare for a third series of adventures.

This is because the anime adaptation of Ryo Shirakome’s Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest Light Novel series has not yet adapted the entire story.

Per anime geekDespite some minor interruptions and changes in events during the last broadcast, the season two finale will complete the adaptation of the sixth volume of the light novel series.

The good news is that as of March 2022, 12 volumes have been published released in Japan, which means there’s enough source material to potentially start production on Arifureta Season 3 right away!

All too often in the anime industry, series are shelved because production companies have to wait for more source material to be released before they can start work on the next season.

However, with arguably enough content forthcoming for another 13-episode production, this may encourage Studio Asread and Studio Mother to greenlight Season 3 immediately.

Another encouragement for Arifureta Season 3 would be the popularity of the series. While anime fell far short of the top shows on the winter list, it was incredibly difficult for series to get close to the likes of Demon Slayer, Attack on Titan, and My Dress-Up Darling.

Apart from that, Arifureta has done a good job of maintaining his fan ratings during his second broadcast; arguably being the “best of the rest”. That includes a solid, if not slightly overwhelming, reading of 7.21/10 ahead MyAnimeList7.2/10 on IMDB and 7.6/10 on RatinGraph.

Considering the availability of source material, the decent performance among fans, and the fact that Studio Asread hasn’t publicly announced their next production; It’s certain that Arifureta will eventually return for Season 3 – but when?

What date could Arifureta Season 3 release?

While production of Arifureta Season 3 is yet to be confirmed, we can make some predictions as to when it might release based on the production cycle at Studio Asread.

The anime adaptation was the first announced in December 2017, with the second season premiering in July 2019. The series was released immediately renewed upon its completion in October 2019, with the second domestic airing beginning in January 2022.

This sets an approximate production cycle for full TV seasons of the Arifureta anime between 18 and 26 months. On the face of it, this suggests fans may not see the series return until fall 2023, if not winter 2024.

However, significant delays and changes occurred in the production of both seasons, including the replacement of Studio White Fox with Studio Mother as the second company for Season 2.

Actually was the first season originally is slated to premiere in April 2018, shortening the production cycle to just 10 months. Assuming that Studio’s Asread and Mother will continue the co-production with Season 3, it would greatly reduce the potential wait that fans will have to endure.

Given the production cycle of previous shows, as well as the availability of enough source material, fans can expect Arifureta to return once again on the winter slate in January 2023.
