Armed police officers storm the Sussex home and arrest a man after several shots were fired

Armed police stormed the scene of an “armed incident” in Hastings after reports of gunfire.

A man has been arrested in connection with the incident, Sussex Police said just before midnight on Tuesday.

Police were called to the scene after shots were reportedly fired at a vehicle on Theaklan Drive around 7.10pm. Shortly thereafter, officers received a report of an armed man on a nearby street.

Large numbers of heavily armed police officers responded to both scenes, urging people to stay away. Photos show squads of officers wearing body armor and tactical gear. A National Police Air Service helicopter was also there to assist.

A man was arrested and a firearm confiscated after police secured the area and warned the public to stay away

No injuries have been reported in connection with the incident and it is not being treated as a terrorist act.

A firearm was confiscated when the man involved was taken into custody, Sussex Police said yesterday.

Hastings Command Chief Inspector Jayantha Mendis-Gunasekera said: “The nature of the reports we received made it imperative that we acted accordingly, and that included asking for assistance from our neighboring forces.

“Fortunately no injuries were reported and we can confirm that it is not being treated as a terrorist incident.
