Army and Navy battle it out in a culinary challenge at the PA Farm Show

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – On Thursday, January 12, Team Army and Team Navy faced off in a culinary battle at the 107th Pennsylvania Farm Show.
The seventh annual Iron Chef-style cooking event is held at the Farm Show in honor of Military Appreciation Day.
Petty Officer James Monoski of the United States Navy was joined by abc27’s Ali Lanyon and Dan Tomaso to represent Team Navy. SSG Joe Shandly Malubay, a Culinary Specialist in the Army Executive Dining Facility and a member of the US Army, was joined by WGAL media personalities.
A four-person jury evaluated the dishes, which were prepared in 30 minutes using ingredients from a mystery basket. Each team was given 30 minutes to prepare four identical meals, one for each judge.
This year’s surprise basket contained:
- Chicken
- sausage
- maple syrup
- potatoes
- curd cheese
- Mushrooms
- Chicken Spice Rub
Team Navy prepared a seared chicken drumstick with rustic cottage cheese mashed potatoes and sautéed mushrooms with a maple and balsamic glaze.

At the end of the day, Team Navy took home the win.
