Juventus must beat Premier League duo Leeds United and Arsenal to Orkun Kokcu, says former Serie A star Mohamed Sissoko TuttoJuve comparing the Feyenoord midfielder to Luka Modric.

Speaking about the prospect of arguably Europe’s greatest footballer teaming up with Max Allegri, former Roma midfielder Stefano Impallomeni made his feelings very clear.

Mo Salah, he says, would be a “useless” addition to the Juventus squad if the 2017 Champions League runners-up didn’t first strengthen their more middle midfield.

The current options available to Allegri, including Weston McKennie and Adrien Rabiot, certainly don’t quite live up to the standards of their predecessors. The Andrea Pirlos, the Arturo Vidals, the Claudio Marchisios of the world.

But is Kokcu really the missing piece of the Juve puzzle? After taking his game to a whole new level at Feyenoord in recent months, silencing his critics and thriving in a deep-rooted role in midfield under esteemed coach Arne Slot, Sissoko beams in his praise for the 21-year-old Turkey International, identifying Kokcu as the perfect complement to Juventus’ stuttering engine room.

Is Orkun Kokcu the new Luka Modric?

“He is number 10 from Feyenoord. Although young, he already has around ten appearances for the Turkish national team. He doesn’t cost much, has a low salary and I think he’s the right player for Juventus,” says Sissoko, who spent three years in Turin after moving from Liverpool.

“He’s ready for the leap to a big club like Juventus. After all, players from the Eredivisie play a big role in Italy (see Denzel Dumfries, Matthijs de Ligt, Hans Hateboer).

“He’s the protagonist at Feyenoord, he’s a six-goal, eight-assist player and the best in his league.

“I see him play different roles. He made a good impression on me both as a central and as an attacking midfielder. He’s perfect as a lynchpin in a three-man midfield.”

Leeds United are considering a summer offer for Kokcu amid doubts over Kalvin Phillips’ future at Elland Road (Freek Jansen).

Arsenal are also longtime admirers. The Gunners first started talks to sign the Dutch-born playmaker two years ago this month (Ziggo sports).

And Sissoko thinks we’ll be talking about Kokcu in the same breath as a Ballon D’Or winner and four-time European champion.

“(Luka) Modric. For me (Kokcu) has the same quality of play,” Sissoko adds. “He has the potential to reach his level.”
