Arsenal and Spurs discover ‘electric’ target has £127m release clause

Arsenal and Tottenham found out this week that alleged target Darwin Nunez has a release clause in his €150m (£127m) Benfica contract.

According to O Jogo via the express, the Portuguese giants could demand a club-record fee for the Uruguay international. However, according to the report, Benfica will accept bids from just €80m (£68m) for Nunez this summer, who is a target for both Arsenal and Tottenham.

With Nunez enjoying a superb season and exports from the Portuguese Primera Liga usually impressive in the Premier League, the South American could be a brilliant signing for Arsenal or Tottenham this summer.

There’s no denying that Nunez has been outstanding this season. The young striker is one of the most successful in Europe and a player with the potential to become a superstar. But for Arsenal and Tottenham, the fee Benfica is asking is simply too high.

After all, this is only Nunez’s second season in Portugal, while the 22-year-old is attracting plenty of attention should Arsenal and Tottenham look for safer talent to lead their front line if they plan to spend big on a centre-forward this summer.
