Arsenal now want an ace that Arsene Wenger called a ‘true box-to-box player’.
Corresponding CalcioMercatoWebArsenal have presented a £34million bid to bring Ismael Bennacer back to north London.
The Algerian midfielder was on the Gunners’ books as a youngster but the north London side made the mistake of selling him to Empoli in 2017 for just £900,000.
Since then, Bennacer has gone from strength to strength, joining AC Milan where he just won a Serie A title.
Arsenal want Bennacer back but what type of player would they get if they signed the 24-year-old? Well, Arsene Wenger summed him up well while working with a young Bennacer.

Wenger gave Bennacer a glowing review as a youngster.
“He’s a player who isn’t spectacular but a very efficient player,” the manager told Arsenal’s club website. “He’s the kind of player that once you put him on the team, you can’t take him out.
“He’s a very good defender, he’s a fighter, left-footed and very efficient going forward. He’s a true box-to-box player.
“He can do all sorts of jobs. He’s still young, he still lacks some experience, but he’s a promising player.”
What Arsenal needs
We hate to rub salt in the wound but Bennacer sounds like exactly the player Arsenal need.
A true box-to-box midfielder, bringing guts and steel to midfield, Arsenal have needed a player in this form for as long as we can remember.
Of course, the Gunners could have already had Bennacer in that position if they hadn’t sold him, but they could make up for that mistake by re-signing the Milan star.
If Wenger rates you, you’re good enough for Arsenal.
