Jay Bothroyd has claimed on Twitter that Mikel Arteta is just “not the guy” for Arsenal.
Arsenal suffered a horrific 2-1 defeat by Brighton & Hove Albion at the Emirates Stadium this afternoon.
Remember the Gunners were also defeated 3-0 by Crystal Palace on Monday night.
Both defeats have severely hampered the north Londoners’ bid to qualify for the Champions League and Tottenham could move a three-point lead in fourth place with a win at Aston Villa tonight.
Here is how Bothroyd – who started his career at Arsenal – reacted on Twitter:
Not good enough?
Arsenal are the only top-four contenders not to have had European football this season.
That was a huge advantage Arteta held over their rivals – not to mention the fact that the Gunners spent more than anyone in Europe last summer.
If the team from Emirates Stadium still don’t finish fourth, one wonders how next season will be different.
Whatever happens, Arsenal will have more games next season and the strength of their squad will be tested a lot more, especially when the first half of the season is spent playing every two weeks from Thursday to Sunday as a result of the Europa League.
At 40, Arteta, who earns £96,000 a weekHe is still an exciting and young manager but the past six days have shown that he still has so much to learn.
