Arsenal said PL boss won’t sweat because he lost his two players Arteta wants to sign

Craig Burley has claimed Pep Guardiola won’t sweat the possibility of Arsenal’s transfer targets Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus being lost this summer. as he told ESPN.

The former Scotland international explained both players had made a “huge contribution” to Manchester City, but then hinted they weren’t as important as Kevin de Bruyne or Rodri.

Mikel Arteta worked with both Sterling and Jesus during his time at Etihad, so it’s no surprise he would want them to join him at the Emirates.

Given Arsenal don’t play Champions League football, if they had to drop down they would do pretty well to lure a player to their club.

Either way, while Burley realizes what Sterling and Jesus have been up to over the years, he believes Man City’s ship won’t be as badly damaged as they head for the exit door.

“I think we’re talking about two players (Jesus and Sterling) who have been really good for Man City in different ways,” Burley said.

“But reasonably okay that they can be used as collateral for letting go without damaging the ship, if at all. I think if you were talking about Kevin de Bruyne or Rodri leaving, then we’re talking about huge holes here because we know how important those players are.

“You have contributed a lot. If it had been a few other key players then Guardiola would have been sweating at his house earlier in the season.

“But I don’t think he will be if he loses those two players.”

Wherever the two players end up, they will be statement signings and players who would highlight the next team they join – Jack Wilshere wants Sterling at Arsenal.

Arsenal are desperate for this proven player, someone who can score those big goals and lift the young stars around them.

Sterling would do that a lot more than Jesus based on his experience, but from a purely playing point of view the Brazilian is needed more because his style would help bring Arsenal’s game together much better.

Anyway, whoever the Gunners end up with, possibly both? Then it would be one that signals to its rivals that they mean business next season.

Arteta narrowly missed out on Champions League football last time out and he can’t afford to do it again in 2022/23.
