Arsenal teenager versus Cafu – just as Edu eyeing another signing in his position

Arsenal appear to have another teenager on their way to stardom with right-back Brooke Norton-Cuffy shining on loan at Lincoln City.

The Gunners have seen Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe become the stars of the first team after rising to prominence from the now famous Hale End academy.

The hope for Arsenal is that more and more young players emerge in a similar fashion. Charlie Patino and Folarin Balogun certainly have the hype behind them.

Norton-Cuffy back to the right doesn’t quite have the same tape, but it may not be long until he actually does.

Norton-Cuffy, 18, is clearly overrated at Arsenal. Having made his Premier League 2 debut at the age of 16 in October 2020, Norton-Cuffy has high hopes.

In January, Arsenal agreed to loan Norton-Cuffy to Lincoln City.

Lincoln boss Michael Appleton was quickly impressed, predicting that Norton-Cuffy would one day become a Premier League regular.

On Saturday, Norton-Cuffy may have been Lincoln’s best moment to date, scoring a pretty stellar finish against Sheffield Wednesday.

That gave Lincoln a 3-1 win over the Owls, giving Norton-Cuffy the first high-profile goal in the process.

Lincoln couldn’t help himselftook to Twitter to change his name to ‘Brooke Norton-Cafu’ after his goal.

As one of the most highly regarded right-backs in football history, Arsenal wouldn’t expect Norton-Cuffy to reach Cafu’s level.

However, having clearly earned a very high nickname in a few months of his longtime activity, it is clear that the teenager has huge potential.

That could give Edu and Mikel Arteta something to think about amid recent transfer statements.

Declaration of Northern Echo Arsenal are looking to sign either Djed Spence or Isaiah Jones, both at Middlesbrough.

Both players are attacking right-backs – or at best full-backs – and that seems to be what Arsenal want.

Takehiro Tomiyasu is good but probably not a real ‘modern day’ full-back. Another right-back signed by Edu is Cedric Soares, but he doesn’t fit that bill either.

Norton-Cuffy now hopes to show he can do the job and become another Saka or Smith Rowe who excelled early in his League One career.
