Arteta may have more bad news for Arsenal fans

Arsenal’s lack of cutting edge was evident on Saturday.

The Gunners dominated their visit to Southampton yesterday but still returned to north London with a 1-0 defeat.

Fraser Forster made some brilliant saves to keep Arsenal away but the visitors really lacked the killer instinct in front of goal.

Alexandre Lacazette could hardly be called a killer this season, having scored just two Premier League goals from open play.

But the French attacker, who has the coronavirus, was a huge mistake up front at St Mary’s.

Arsenal now have a potentially season-defining week ahead, visiting Chelsea midweek and hosting Manchester United next Saturday.

However, Arteta was unable to confirm if Lacazette, his £46million captain, will be available.

When asked if the 30-year-old will be back in action by then, Arteta said via The standard: “It will depend on if he’s negative and if he’s feeling better and his symptoms are gone and he’s available to play.”

And while he hasn’t been a huge player on the pitch in terms of goals this season, he’s an important figure – not to mention the club’s captain – and he’ll certainly be a huge failure if he can’t feature against Chelsea.

That’s because Eddie Nketiah doesn’t seem up to the task of leading the Gunners’ attack and when he starts again at Stamford Bridge it’s just so difficult Arsenal – who already have Kieran Tierney, Thomas Partey and Takehiro Tomiyasu sidelined – to get something .
